Environmental Protection Agency FIELDS OVERVIEW

The FIELDS Tools for ArcView (Version 3.5) are a collection of 11 independent ArcView extensions (modules) that provide spatial analysis in support of environmental decision-making. Modules include:
  • Database (includes a query tool)
  • Sample design
  • Geospatial modeling and analysis
  • Human health and ecological risk assessment
  • Remedial Tools

FIELDS also links directly to other DSTs such as F/S Plus and Visual Sample Plan.

    Comments

    FIELDS - data loading
    • Follows ESRI ArcView 3.x rules for data loading (dbf).
    • FIELDS requires specific data field names, but will prompt user to assign existing field names to the required field names if necessary.
    FIELDS - graphic loading
    • Follows ESRI ArcView 3.x rules for graphic loading (shapefiles and AutoCAD dxf).
    • Use of dxf requires AutoCAD 2000 version.dxf.
    FIELDS - logical flow
    • FIELDS documentation contains a logical flow pattern that a novice can use to create a sample design.
    FIELDS - expert knowledge
    • Expert knowledge is not required to develop an initial sampling design (random unaligned grid) or conduct interpolation using natural neighbor. The parameters required for these algorithms are basic, and the menu system provides a logical sequence of operations.
    • Expert knowledge is needed to interpret the results of interpolation.
    FIELDS - documentation
    • Documentation is designed to lead users through the process of sampling design.
    • Help menus explain which sampling scenarios may be best for a specific situation.
    FIELDS - output
    • FIELDS will prompt the user for printing directly from FIELDS after selected statistical routines.
    • FIELDS will save generated statistical tables in dbf format.
    • FIELDS will create files suitable for use in Pathfinder Office and GPS.
    FIELDS - sources
    • Version 3.5 downloaded October 18, 2004.
