A radionuclide is a radioactive element characterized according to its atomic mass and atomic number which can be man-made or naturally occurring. Radionuclides can have a long life as soil or water pollutants and are believed to have potentially mutagenic or carcinogenic effects on the human body. Like metals, the contaminants of concern are typically nonvolatile and less soluble in water than some other contaminants. However, the solubility and volatility of individual radionuclides will vary.
The following is a list of common radionuclides:
Americium-241 Cesium-134, -137 Cobalt-60 Europium-152, -154, -155 Plutonium-238, -239 Radium-224, -226 Strontium-90 Technetium-99 Thorium-228, -230, -232 Uranium-234, -235, -238
