Appendix E.5 The Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) Program |
|
The SITE Program evaluates new and promising treatment, monitoring and measurement technologies for cleanup of hazardous waste sites. The program was created to encourage the development and routine use of innovative treatment technologies. As a result, the SITE Program provides environmental decision-makers with data on new, viable treatment technologies that may have performance or cost advantages compared to traditional treatment technologies. This document was intended as a reference guide (EPA/540/R-97/502) for those interested in technologies under the SITE Demonstration, Emerging Technology, and Monitoring and Measurement Technologies Programs. The two page profiles, which are organized into two sections (completed and ongoing projects) for each program, are presented in alphabetical order by developer name. Each technology profile contains:
The profiles also include summaries of demonstration results if available. The technology description and waste applicability sections are written by the developer. EPA prepared the status and demonstration results sections. Reference tables for SITE Program participants precede the sections and contain EPA and developer contacts. The tables present both waste and media categories. The waste categories include specific chemicals or chemical groups. The following media categories are considered: air/gases, ground water/liquids, leachate, sediment, sludge, soil, solid debris, and wastewater. The Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) Program: Technology Profiles (EPA/540/R-97/502) is downloadable from EPA Office of Research and Development's home page: http://www.epa.gov/ORD/SITE/. |
