Sites where explosive contaminants may be found include artillery/impact areas, contaminated marine sediments, disposal wells, leach fields, landfills, burial pits, and TNT washout lagoons. Potentially applicable remediation technologies are presented in Table 2-8. Typical explosive contaminants encountered at many sites include the following:

• TNT (2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene) • Picrates
• RDX (Cyclo-1,3,5-trimethylene-2,4,6-trinitramine) • TNB (Trinitrobenzenes)
• Tetryl (N-Methyl-N,2,4,6-tetranitrobenzeneamine) • DNB (Dintrobenzenes)
• 2,4-DNT (2,4-Dinitrotoluene) • Nitroglycerine
• 2,6-DNT (2,6-Dinitrotoluene) • Nitrocellulose
• HMX (1,3,5,7-Tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetraazocyclooctane) • AP (Ammonium perchlorate)
• Nitroaromatics • Nitroglycerine
